KATHMANDU: Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has pointed out that local election is an important medium for strengthening people’s rights. The government has laid special focus on organising the polls in a peaceful way as local government is the one nearest to the people, he said at a press conference at his hometown at Tilottama in the district on Wednesday.
“We have ensured proper security to hold the poll in a peaceful manner. We may conduct an aerial patrol if need be.” There is proper coordination between the security agencies to deal with possible challenges during the poll as it is being organised in a single day unlike in the past, he asserted.
Stating that there would be an agreement and cooperation between the coalition parties in the government for the election, Khand, also the ruling Nepali Congress leader, warned of action against those not abiding by the decision of the alliance.
“Whether or not the electoral coalition continues is not important issue at present. There might be an electoral alliance in some places or the coalition partners may contest independently in others. But what the center decides should be followed by all,” he said.
On the reinstatement of the governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Maha Prasad Adhikari, the minister stated that he would honour the court’s decision. Earlier, the government had decided to suspend Adhikari charging him with leaking sensitive information to the media and non-cooperation with the government among others.
