Kathmandu, April 2: Chairman of the Shram Sanskriti Party (SSP), Harka Sampang Rai, has stressed the need to ensure public access to the proper utilization of natural resources while maintaining their conservation.
Addressing the first session of the House of Representatives (HoR) following the March 5 elections, he emphasized that natural resources should be harnessed to promote national prosperity without compromising sustainability.
He called on all stakeholders to contribute to curbing corruption and strengthening good governance. He also expressed the view that treaties not aligned with national sovereignty and dignity should be scrapped. In addition, he proposed mobilizing the Nepali Army for border security and voiced support for a directly elected executive system.
Sampang further demanded an investigation into the incidents of provocation and suppression that occurred on September 8–9, urging that those responsible be held accountable. He also called for a thorough inquiry into the property ownership of politicians and public officials.
Highlighting economic reforms, he proposed linking education with production through initiatives such as “one local level: one industry” and “one household: one employment.” He also stressed the need to revive closed industries and establish new ones.
Drawing the government’s attention to public service delivery, he underscored the urgency of improving key sectors including peace and security, education, healthcare, and drinking water.
He also advised the government to reconsider its decision to scrap student unions and to review the new standards for old-age allowances.
“Landless people should be properly managed rather than being subjected to displacement pressures,” he asserted. #nepal #house
