Kathmandu, Nov 20: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ today said the attraction of qualified students towards health services in Nepal is connected based on the interrelations between the production of medical human resources and employment opportunities.
In his address to the 12th meeting of the Medical Education Commission in Baluwatar, the PM said the Commission formed for the regulation and management of important and sensitive subjects like medical education had been continuously improving its performance and guidelines in the field.
The commission would carry out its works while proving itself a milestone in the production of quality medical workforce for the country in the days to come, he said.
The PM said, “The present need is to improve accessible service delivery and increase study opportunities based on the estimation of the human resources required in the health sector while creating honourable employment opportunities for the currently produced human resources.”
Noting that not only the increase in the workforce production, the adherence of the minimum standards of quality studies and teaching is equally important, the PM said efforts were underway to establish the medical education system as a centre of attraction for students aspiring to pursue education in Nepal internationally.
It was necessary for all of us to work together to gradually carry out the legal policy and institutional reforms to provide healthcare to the people at their doorsteps in a feasible and convenient way while expanding the learning and teaching of medical education to all provinces of the country, and developing all types of workforce.
Others present on the occasion were Minister for Health and Population Mohan Bahadur Basnet, and Vice President of the Commission Prof Dr Anjani Kumar Jha.
