Kathmandu, June 8: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has completed its final review under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme for Nepal, approving approximately US$42.9 million in financial assistance.
The IMF stated in a press release that the decision reflects Nepal’s progress in structural reforms despite a slowdown in economic activity.
The statement highlights improvements in governance, including modernization of monetary operations, strengthened financial sector supervision, and enhanced accountability of public institutions.
Following its Executive Board meeting on June 5, the IMF acknowledged notable progress in Nepal’s economic reform agenda and projected economic growth of around 3 percent for the fiscal year 2025/26. However, it cautioned that growth could be affected by political unrest, weaker agricultural output, reduced private investment, and global geopolitical tensions, including developments in the Middle East.
So far, Nepal has received about US$384.1 million under the ECF programme, which is scheduled to continue until July 11, 2026. The programme, approved in January 2022, provides Nepal access to 180 percent of its IMF quota, equivalent to US$282.4 million. #nepal
