Nepal Police nabs 23 Indian nationals involved in betting



Kathmandu, Feb 12: The Kathmandu District Police Office have made public 23 Indian nationals involved in illegal betting activities.

They were arrested while running an online gambling operation at a residence owned by Dorje Sherpa in Gairigaun, Budhanilkantha Municipality-3, Kathmandu.

The police seized Rs. 81,000 cash, 88 mobile phones, laptops, Indian SIM cards, Indian Aadhaar cards, ATMs, other SIM cards, and notebooks documenting financial transactions from the suspects. The detainees are being investigated under charges of illegal betting after securing a remand extension from the Kathmandu District Court.

At a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bishwo Adhikari of the Kathmandu District Police disclosed that the online gambling operation was worth approximately NRs. 3 billion, as revealed by the ongoing investigation.

He emphasized that the organization prioritizes peace and security, crime investigation, traffic management, and combating human trafficking. SSP Adhikari also stated that over 80% of the budget allocated to the department is utilized for maintaining peace and order.

He added, ”Efforts are being made to ensure smooth and quality service delivery. We have embraced the principle that peace and security are the primary prerequisites for achieving the state’s development and happiness goals.”

According to SSP Adhikari, the district police comprises about 4,000 personnel, who have been assisting citizens in over 1,100 matters under its jurisdiction. #betting #nepal #india
