Innovation, partnership and a stronger Nepal–Israel bond

It is a true honor to join you this evening as we celebrate the 78th Independence Day of the State of Israel here in Kathmandu. This occasion is not only a celebration of Israel’s national journey, but also a celebration of friendship, partnership, and shared aspirations between our two countries.

Israel is a small country in geography, but a remarkable one in global impact. From its earliest days, Israel has learned to transform limitation into innovation. That spirit has made Israel a source of ideas and technologies that benefit the world. Today, Israeli innovation is visible in many forms: Waze has changed how millions of people navigate their journeys; Wiz has become a global leader in cybersecurity; and even in agriculture, Israel has contributed to practical breakthroughs such as cherry tomatoes, which reflect creativity, research, and the ability to make scarce resources more productive.

This spirit of innovation has special meaning for Nepal. As Nepal’s new government sets its priorities for growth, job creation, digital development, agriculture, and opportunity for young people, Israel stands ready to contribute experience and cooperation. Our countries may be different in size and geography, but we share a common belief that progress comes through education, innovation, and resilience. Israeli experience in water management, agriculture, technology, and entrepreneurship can support Nepal’s national priorities in meaningful ways.

The friendship between Israel and Nepal is already visible in practical cooperation. Through MASHAV, Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, Nepali participants have benefited from professional training and capacity-building programs in areas that matter for development. The Learn & Earn program has created valuable pathways for Nepali youth to gain skills and work experience. In addition, work opportunities in Israel have provided many Nepali citizens with livelihoods, experience, and support for their families back home.

This partnership is also rooted in mutual respect. B.P. Koirala, one of Nepal’s most respected national leaders, championed democracy, dignity, and the importance of building a society that empowers its people. His vision reminds us that development is not only about infrastructure or growth statistics; it is also about human dignity, opportunity, and the freedom to build a better future. That spirit resonates deeply with the relationship between Nepal and Israel.

Tonight, as we celebrate Israel’s independence, let us also celebrate the bonds that continue to grow between our peoples. Let us renew our shared commitment to cooperation in innovation, education, development, and opportunity. Together, we can ensure that the friendship between Nepal and Israel continues to deepen and bring practical benefits to both nations.

Thank you for your warm presence and your friendship. May our partnership continue to flourish in the years ahead.
