Jajarkot Earthquake: Relief distributions ongoing in Jajarkot, Rukum Paschim

Kathmandu, Nov 5: The officials and people’s representatives from the districts of Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim, the two worst-hit districts from November 3 earthquake, have shared that the relatives and family members of those killed ones received the bodies and the final rites were performed.

Likewise, the affected people received essential goods including tents and blankets.

Similarly, the seriously injured people from the earthquake are receiving treatment in the hospitals in Surkhet, Nepalgunj and Kathmandu.

Mayor of Chedegad Municipality in Jajarkot Ratna Bahadur Khadka said that the final rites of those killed in the earthquake from his municipality were performed on the Bheri river bank after the postmortem of the dead bodies.

He said relief materials are being supplied to the quake-survivors. “A huge quantity of relief materials has been received from different organizations including Nepal Red Cross Society. Some of them are distributed while others are being supplied,” Khadka shared.

Deputy Mayor of Bheri Municipality Sita Jaisi said that relief materials are being distributed through one-window system and the ward offices have collected data of the damages.

In Barekot Rural Municipality, rescue operation is ongoing. Rural Municipality vice-chairman Nar Bahadur Giri said the medical teams are mobilized in view of the affected people’s health condition.

Giri stated that those rendered homeless have been housed in public places and schools. He shared that the good social harmony existed in the society has helped many of the affected people to accommodate.

The Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Force Shailendra Thapa said that the death toll from the earthquake reached 157 including 105 in Jajarkot and 52 in Rukum Paschim districts.
