KATHMANDU: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has increased the number of Kathmandu-Delhi flights from two to six in a week.
Gyanendra Bhull, deputy manager of the flight permission branch of CAA, has issued permission to Nepal Airlines Corporation and Indian flag carrier Air India to operate six flights three times a week with effective from Monday.
In order to break the chain of the second wave of coronavirus infection in April-May, the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had limited flights to two in a week in the Kathmandu-Delhi sector.
Since then, even though Nepal has banned commercial flights to other countries, Nepal-India flights have been running twice a week.
CAA spokesperson Raj Kumar Kshatriya said that the cabinet meeting on Saturday decided to increase the number of flights under the air bubble concept after the one-way air fare of the route reached Rs 50,000.
As per the decision of the Council of Ministers, CAA has allowed the airlines of the two countries to operate six flights a week from July 19.
