Korean support worth over Rs 800 million for cyber bureau



KATHMANDU: The Republic of Korea is to provide financial assistance worth over Rs 800 million (USD 8 million) to Nepal for establishment of the state-of-the-art building of Cyber Bureau.

An agreement for the same was signed between Secretary at the Home Ministry Tek Narayan Pandey, on the behalf of government of Nepal, and KOICA Country Director Sunghoon Ko, representing the Republic of Korea, here today.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the financial assistance will be used to establish a well-equipped and well-capacitated Cyber Bureau building.

The monetary aid will be utilized for building digital forensic lab, procuring equipment related to cyber-crime investigation and for capacity building of human resources in the Nepal Police.

KOICA will coordinate efforts with the Nepal Police for the implementation of this project within six years.

The government of Korea, through Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), has been providing support to Nepal since 1990 in the sector related to health, vocational training, rural development and communication technology among others.
