Kathmandu, Dec 11: The power transmission line of 220 KV along the Kaligandaki corridor has come into operation. With the beginning of the transmission line, power supply to the districts of Nawalparasi and Rupandehi is expected to remain stable.

Minister for Energy Shakti Bahadur Basnet on Monday inaugurated the transmission line of some 90 kilometres that supplies power along Khurkot of Kushma Municipality-2 in Parbat to New Butwal Substation at Suryabasti of Sunwal Municipality-13 in Bardhaghat Susta Paschim.

The transmission line of 220 KV would transmit the power generated from the hydropower projects in Kaligandaki river and its tributaries. The transmission line has the capacity to transmit 1,200 megawatt power.

Inaugurating the transmission grid, Minister Basnet said that the Kaligandaki corridor transmission line was vital for supplying power to and from east-west of Nepal and also for the trans-border power trade.

Likewise, Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority Kulman Ghising said the New Butwal Substation has remained a big pooling hub of power to consume more power in the local level, for east-west power supply and export to India.
A total of 236 towers have been constructed along the transmission line, it is said.

The power transmission grid is expected to expand and strengthen internal power distribution and trans-border transmission system in the country.

With the development of the Kaligandaki corridor transmission line, credibility of the integrated power system and the power voltage in Nawalparasi and Rupandehi districts have improved.

Likewise, the power generated in the districts of Mustang and Myagdi now would be linked to the same transmission line to supply to the national grid.

The transmission line was completed with the investment of Rs 11 billion from the government, NEA and South Asia Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation of the Asian Development Bank.

After the completion of power grid from New Butwal Substation to Bardaghat, another power supply line of 220 KV would be readied from Hetauda to New Butwal. RSS
