Kathmandu, August 31: Nepal’s sexual and gender minority (LGBTI) community has demonstrated the “Nepal Gaurav Yatra” on the occasion of Gaijatra festival in Kathmandu on Thursday, demanding the creation of a non-discrimination society and equal gender rights.

They organized the Yatra from Basantpur to Tundikhel. The US ambassador  to Nepal Dean R Thomson also took part the program in Basantpur.

The participants in the journey displayed placards written in different languages saying ‘Your identity is not wrong’.  According to the English calendar, the month of June is considered as ‘Pride Month’. In this month, gender and sexual minorities organize various programs.

Blue Diamond Society, an organization advocating for the wellbeing of sexual minorities, organized a pride concert in Tundikhel, Kathmandu. They participated in the program dressed in different costumes.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador Thomson has said in a tweet, “I was happy to participate in this year’s Blue Diamond Society Pride Parade to celebrate Nepal’s LGBTQIA+ communities. The U.S. will always proudly stand with the LGBTQIA+ community in Nepal.”
