
Nawalparasi, Feb 27: The Magar communities across the country are celebrating the 43nd Magar National Unity Day today by organizing several programmes.
As informed, cultural processions and demonstrations are also taking place in various parts of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) having a majority of Magar population. Nepal Magar Association’s district working committee and other groups will organize the programme, shared central member of Association, Indra Phal Magar.
“On the occasion of Magar Foundation Day, Magar Associations of all districts, municipality and rural municipality-level as well as organizations abroad are also preparing to organize various programmes on the occasion of the day,” he said.
Association’s Nawalpur chapter President Bhum Bahadur Rai Magar said that the day is expected to play an important role in preserving the extinct folk culture, including Salaijo, Jhyaure and Kauda. The day is to make the new generation aware about the Magar language and cultural, historical aspects and customs, it is shared.
This day is celebrated every year on Falgun 15 (February 27) to commemorate the united efforts to protect the rights and existence of the Magar community people and commemorate the establishment of the Association. According to the National Census 2078 BS, the Magar community has a total population of 2,01 million in Nepal. This is 6.9 percent of the total population.
On the occasion, all eight local governments of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) have declared a public holiday. Issuing separate notices, the local governments said that all public offices will remain closed today to mark the day. Gaindakot, Devchuli, Kawasoti, Madhyabindu municipalities and Hupsekot, Binayi Triveni, Bullingtar and Boudikali rural municipalities have declared public holiday today.
The Magar community, according to the National Census, has a population of 103,949 in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East). This is 27.49 percent of the total population of the district.
