Maoist decides transforming National Conference into General Convention

KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Center) has decided to turn the National Conference into a General Convention on the basis of the enthusiasm received from the cadres and suggestions received from the people.
A meeting of the standing committee held at the party’s central office in Parisdanda this evening has decided to turn the national conference starting from Sunday into a general convention.

However, the decision is yet to be approved by the Central Committee meeting on Sunday.

After the meeting of the standing committee, party spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara informed that it has been decided to turn the national convention into a general convention as there is growing interest in the party and special interest in the party ranks.

The Maoist constitution provides for the convening of either a national conference or a general convention.

With the decision to transform the National Conference into a General Convention, it will be renamed as the Eighth General Convention.

The Maoists have argued that there is no difficulty in turning the conference into a general convention as it has been held from the ward level.

Spokesperson Mahara informed that the decision was taken after the suggestion that there would be no difference in converting the General Convention as it was supposed to be held after a certain time.
