Meeting of eight parties decides to form working group

Kathmandu, Feb 26: A meeting of eight parties including Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre) has formed a working group targeting the presidential election. A working group led by Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka was formed at the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence Baluwatar this evening.

The working group consists of General Secretary of Maoist Centre Dev Gurung, General Secretary of CPN (Unified Socialist) Party Beduram Bhusal, Senior leader of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Rajendra Shrestha, leader of Janamat Party Abdul Khan, Sharatsingh Bhandari from Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP), Chairman of Nagarik Unmukti Party Ranjita Shrestha Chaudhary and Chitra Bahadur KC from Rastriya Janamorcha.

The members in the working group will have to take charge of their respective parties in the presidential election. Rajendra Shrestha, a senior leader of JSP, informed that the meeting also decided to instruct all the parliamentarians of all the parties affiliated to the alliance to come to Kathmandu by March 7.

Similarly, the meeting has decided to give orientation to federal MPs and to hold election-oriented programs in all seven provinces. The decision of the meeting is to call on all the parties to support Nepali Congress candidate Ramchandra Poudel in the presidential election.

Prime Minister and Maoist Chairman Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, General Secretary Dev Gurung, Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Senior Leader Ramchandra Paudel, Deputy President Purna Bahadur Khadka, JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav, CPN (U S) Leader Ghanashyam Bhusal, LSP Chairman Mahanth Thakur, Nagarik Unmukti Party President Ranjita Shrestha Chaudhary and others participated in today’s meeting.

The Election Commission has scheduled the registration of presidential nominations on Saturday and the schedule for the presidential election on February 25. The eight-party meeting held on Friday decided to support the Congress candidate in the upcoming presidential election. As the Congress decided to make senior leader Ramchandra Paudel the presidential candidate, he has registered his candidacy.
