Kathmandu, Nov 24: Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen Surendra Raj Acharya has urged all concerned sides to express solidarity to the 16-days of activism against gender based violence (GBV).
At a news conference organised by the Ministry here Friday, Minister Acharya requested stakeholders–individuals, families, civil society and organisations– to express solidarity to the 16-days of activism against GBV by launching different awareness and message-oriented programmes.
He shared that a preparation was made to observe the activism by organising province-level public awareness programmes in all seven provinces in order to observe it massively this year. “The government is effortful to build a prosperous society by elevating the status of women with utmost utilization of available means and resources and formulation of women-centric policy, laws, plan, structure and programmes,” Minister Acharya shared.
The Minister further viewed the government was committed to end all sorts of violence and discrimination against women by adopting zero tolerance to GBV and protecting women’s rights.
Presenting a working paper related to historic background of the activism, national and international commitments and programmes on the occasion, member of Men’s Network, Samyog Thakuri, pointed out that all should join hands to end violence against women.
The slogan of the activism for this year is- “Unite! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”.
