NAC Chairman Sushil Ghimire resigns

KATHMANDU: Former Secretary Sushil Ghimire has resigned from the post of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nepal Airlines Corporation. He said that he had tendered his resignation to Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Uma Shankar Aragaria.

Minister for Tourism Yogesh Bhattarai had given him the responsibility of Executive Chairman with a monthly salary of Rs 1.5 lakh on 2077BS. Before Ghimire, the chairman of the board of directors of the corporation was being the secretary of tourism. This rule was amended after Ghimire was brought.

Seven months after Ghimire became the executive chairman, the then tourism minister Bhattarai had appointed Dim Prasad Poudel, a member of the corporation’s board of directors, as general manager of the corporation. After Poudel was appointed General Manager, Ghimire was only the Chairman of the board of directors.

Poudel, who was brought to the post of General Manager, has three more years left in his tenure. He was a chartered accountant (ACCA) from the UK.

According to a joint secretary in the ministry, the salary scale set by the finance ministry in the coronavirus pandemic is the highest ever compared to the former executive chairman and managing director of the corporation.
