Nepali Congress leader Basnet passes away

Kathmandu, May 12: Nepali Congress leader and former Constituent Assembly member Purushottam Basnet passed away today at the age of 78 at his residence in Siphal, Kathmandu. Basnet’s health was critical for a long time.

Basnet, who was born on 2002 BS in Solukhumbu’s Likhupike Rural Municipality, spent nine years in prison repeatedly during the struggle for the establishment of democracy in the country. He was unmarried.

Basnet, who was an invited central member of the party after the second mass movement of 2062/63 BS, was currently the treasurer of BP Koirala Memorial Trust. Rajendra Parajuli, executive director of the trust, informed that his body will be kept in Pashupati area for paying respects this afternoon and then cremated.
