Pakistan’s Ambassador Visits Lumbini and Bharatpur, Announces Support for Bharatpur Eye Hospital Digitization

Kathmandu: The Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal, H.E. Abrar H. Hashmi, completed a three-day official visit to Lumbini and Bharatpur from 30 November to 2 December 2025, strengthening bilateral cooperation in heritage preservation, cultural exchange, and healthcare development.

During his visit to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Ambassador Hashmi paid respects at the sacred site and held official meetings with the Lumbini Development Trust and the Officiating Mayor of Lumbini. Discussions centered on deepening heritage linkages and promoting cultural and civic relations between Pakistan and Nepal.

In Bharatpur, the Ambassador handed over a cheque to support the paperless digitization initiative of Bharatpur Eye Hospital (BEH). The contribution, described as a gift from the People of Pakistan, will help BEH modernize its operations through an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and fully digitize both administrative and clinical procedures.

Ambassador Hashmi highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding support for the hospital, recalling its origins in 1987 when it was built with assistance from the BCCI Foundation of Pakistan. Over the years, the Pakistan Embassy has contributed to the hospital’s development by supporting the establishment of a pharmacy, operating theatres, an outreach ambulance service, and by facilitating cooperation and exchanges in eye care and medical training.

“Healthcare cooperation has always been an important pillar of Pakistan-Nepal relations,” the Ambassador said at the handover ceremony, emphasizing that such initiatives reflect the shared commitment of both nations to people-centric development and regional well-being.

BEH Management Board Chairman Jayram Shrestha and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pushpa Giri expressed deep gratitude to the People of Pakistan for their continued support and contributions toward enhancing Nepal’s healthcare infrastructure.

The Embassy also hosted a dinner reception at Bharatpur Garden Hotel, attended by BEH officials, district administrators, business leaders, civic representatives, and Nepali alumni of Pakistani institutions, further strengthening community-level engagement.

As part of his Chitwan visit, Ambassador Hashmi toured the College of Medical Sciences, interacted with faculty members and students, and commended the institution’s role in offering quality TVET-based medical education in Nepal. #Nepal
