Petroleum pipeline completed, PM Oli and Indian PM Modi will jointly inaugurate



Kathmandu, Sept 10: The Prime Ministers of Nepal and India will jointly inaugurate the Nepal-India Cross-Border Petroleum Pipeline Project on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Indian PM Narendra Modi will jointly switch button in New Delhi and Kathmandu to inaugurate the project.

It is the first such project which will supply petroleum products through Indian depot to Nepali depot directly. It will connect Motihari of India and Amlekhgunj of Nepal. It will be of 69.2 km pipeline in which there will be 26.2 km in Nepali side and 33.69 km in India side.

According to Nepal Oil Corporation, it can deliver 4000 kiloliter petro products daily. It will reduce a cost of NRs 2 billion in transportation.

Among the total import, this route covers nearly 70 percent.

Nepal Oil Corporation and Indian Oil Corporation had signed an agreement in 2004 to construct a trans-border petroleum pipeline for the smooth supply of petroleum products into Nepal. However, the construction of the project formally began in 2015.

The cost of the project was NRs. 4.4 billion.
