Kathmandu, Feb 27: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that efforts to destroy social decency, spread hate politics, and create distrust even within families will be controlled.
Inaugurating an international conference on digital crime organized by the Office of the Attorney General on Thursday, Prime Minister Oli emphasized that digital technology should be used for human well-being and prosperity. He mentioned that laws have been introduced to prevent misuse of rights that could lead to social degradation.
He clarified that the government will not formulate any law that restricts the right to use social media but will review and amend the constitution as needed after a decade of its implementation.
Stressing that no single country can effectively control crimes in the digital age, he highlighted the need for international cooperation. He stated that crimes can occur with or without the use of digital technology, and international collaboration is crucial in investigating and controlling such crimes using electronic tools.
Prime Minister Oli pointed out that science and technology have made life easier and more comfortable but have also introduced challenges in crime control. He affirmed that the government is committed to ensuring that all people benefit from democracy and technological advancements.
“The 20th century has brought new inventions, but there has also been misuse. Organized efforts are being made in the field of crime. We must create an environment where artificial intelligence and digital technology prevent crimes. If crimes do occur, objective investigations should be conducted to ensure impartial justice,” he said. “Currently, digital technology is not only being used for good but also for committing crimes. I believe such conferences will play a role in preventing crime and delivering effective justice.”
Prime Minister Oli further emphasized that achieving Nepal’s national goal of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali” requires good governance and the proper exercise of citizens’ social and economic rights. However, these rights must not be misused.
“Development has taken place, but we are not satisfied with the current progress. No form of mismanagement can lead us to good governance and prosperity. We aim to enhance people’s basic and biological rights in every aspect. We want complete democracy. Our social structures should ensure human well-being and easy access to services. We are determined to push the country forward and eliminate backwardness,” he stated.
Attorney General Ramesh Badal highlighted the increasing trend of crimes involving digital technology, including the misuse of social media, digital fraud, financial crimes, and data security challenges.
The event was attended by Senior Justice of the Supreme Court Sapana Pradhan Malla, Chief Commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority Prem Kumar Rai, General Consul of the International Association of Prosecutors Shenaj Muzaffar, among others. #politics #hate #nepal
