Police arrests Durga Prasai again from his residence in Bhaktapur

Kathmandu, Feb 16: Durga Prasai, coordinator of the Nation, Nationality, Religion and Culture Protection Campaign, has been arrested again.

According to police, Prasai was taken into custody from his residence in Bhaktapur and subsequently brought to the Kathmandu District Police Office.

Police said he was arrested on suspicion that he could organize street protests targeting February 19 or Falgun 7, 2082. He has been holding protest programs to restore monarchy, Hindu state and abrogation of current constitution, among others.

Earlier, he had also been arrested from Dakshinkali Municipality, Chalnakhel, in Kathmandu and was released on bail with a condition to appear when required.

Meanwhile, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has accused the government of displaying authoritarian tendencies by arresting Prasai. Party spokesperson Mohan Shrestha said the government had exposed its undemocratic character by arresting him again.

He said, “By arresting Durga Prasai again at night time, the government has exposed its undemocratic behaviour. The government is attempting to push the country towards confrontation. Repeatedly arresting the same individual out of vendetta without reason confirms the government’s authoritarian nature. We demand his immediate and unconditional release.” #nepal #election #durgaprasain
