Kathmandu, July 7: President Ramchandra Paudel today inaugurated a religious chariot procession (Jagannath Rathyatra Mahotsav). The event is organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Nepal.
During the inaugural ceremony held at the Kamaladi-based Nepal Academy, the President paid homage to Lord Jagannath.
According to ISKCON’s secretary Rupeshwor Gauravdas, the organisation hosts the festival every year on the second day of the bright fortnight of the month of Asadh.
This date commemorates the mythical event when the Gopinis, devotees of Shri Krishna, escorted him from Dwarka to Brindaban on a chariot.
The festival, which has been observed in Nepal since 1977, also takes place in 165 countries worldwide today. RSS #Nepal
