Kathmandu: Rastriya Swatantra Party’s candidate Shishir Khanal has won the election to the Member of House of Representatives (HoR) from Kathmandu constituency no 6.
Khanal secured 14,204 votes and his closest competitor Sarbendra Khanal of the CPN (UML) got 8,911 votes and Nepali Congress candidate Bhimsen Das Pradhan garnered 8,805 votes, Election Officer Samjhana Khanal said.
The elected Khanal is the founder of Teach for Nepal, a campaign working to improve the education sector of Nepal. Sarbendra Khanal is the former Inspector General of Police while Pradhan is the former Defence Minister.
Twenty-four candidates, including 13 from different parties and 11 independents, were in the race for the HoR seat from Kathmandu-6. There were 62,102 registered voters in this constituency stretching from Bagbazar via Gongabu to Kavresthali of Kathmandu district. The voter turnout in the Sunday’s election was 38,910. Out of this, 1,532 votes were invalid.
