Road widening activities along Araniko highway to resume after monsoon



Kavrepalanchowk, July 3: Activities for the road expansion at Sanga-Dhulikhel road section along Araniko Highway have been stopped due to monsoon. The activities would be resumed once the monsoon exit from the country, according to Suryabinayak-Dhulikhel. Dhulikhel-Sindhuli-Bardibas road project.

However, road expansion task at Poolbazaar area at the road section has been obstructed for the past four months due to disruption of the locals. The road expansion task has been stopped at around 200 meters area due to some reservation of locals.

Project Engineer Bishnu Prasad Khanal said though discussion was held among stakeholders including people’s representatives at the municipality and locals time and again, but in vain.

Various activities including removing houses and huts, removing high-tension pole, erecting other electricity poles  have been completely disrupted due to obstruction of locals.

Meanwhile, six-lane road expansion task from Suryabinayak of Bhaktapur to Dhulikhel of Kavrepalanchowk along Araniko highway would not going to be completed on time. Only around six months is left for the termination of the deadline.

A target was set to complete the 16-kilometer road within 36 months. The road expansion task was started from Poush 24, 2979 BS.  The contract was announced by dividing the 16-kilometer road – Suryabinayak to Sanga, Sanga to Dhulikhel, for the expansion of the highway.

According to the project, only around 50 per cent construction works have completed so far.

Senior Divisional Engineer and Information Officer of the Project, Sajana Adhikari, said around 65 per cent physical progress would be achieved till the deadline and it was delayed due to various reasons including locals obstruction, as well as other circumstances.
