Six people died in Doti with 6.6 magnitude earthquake



Doti:  Six people died and five others were injured when a house collapsed in the earthquake that hit Doti at midnight on Tuesday.

According to the National Seismological Center, an earthquake of 6.6 magnitude occurred with its epicenter in the Khaptad National Park area located in Doti. Dozens of houses in rural areas have been destroyed by the earthquake that occurred at 2:12 midnight on Tuesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhola Bhatta, information officer of the district police office, informed that six people were trapped in their houses when some houses collapsed in Garagaon, Ward No. 3 of East Chowki Rural Municipality of Doti.

The deceased are Bhagwati Bohra, Sita Bohra, Harak Bohra, Prem Bohra, Tulsi Bohra and Dhansari Bohra of Thadangaon, East Chowki Rural Municipality-3. Ram Prasad Upadhyay, chairman of the rural municipality, said that six people died, including three from the same house.

Bhatta said that five people were injured in the earthquake and were brought to the hospital for treatment. For further rescue, the Nepal Police, Armed Police, Nepali Army teams have reached the spot and a team including locals are doing the rescue, police said.

According to Minraj Ojha, a local teacher, the houses of most of the locals have been damaged.

Local Dal Bahadur Deuba informed that due to the earthquake, landslides occurred in Sayal Rural Municipality area as well.

Even before that, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 occurred at Dipayal at 9:7pm in the night, according to the Earthquake Measurement Center. Aftershocks have also terrified the locals. The tremors of the earthquake were also felt in Kailali and Kanchanpur.

On the other hand, in Bajhang, after the earthquake, the local people are sitting awake in open places. Residents of Khaptadchanna rural municipality Bajhang said that they were in a deep sleep at 2 o’clock in the middle of the night.

Laxmi Devi Joshi of Khaptadchanna- 5 said that people from all over the village had lit a fire and sat outside.

According to him, there is news that old houses have been destroyed. As it was night, no information could be received.

In district headquarters Chainpur Bajhang, many people have also gathered in the square of Far Western Boarding School. Earthquakes have been felt repeatedly in the Far West for some time now.
