Thapathali temple awaiting reconstruction

Kathmandu, Oct 16 : The earthquake that occurred four years ago had completely damaged historically and archaeologically important Gopal Temple based in Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC)-11, Thapathali.

Four years have already elapsed since the earthquake but the renovation and reconstruction of the temple is still in limbo.

Narayan Bhakta Shrestha, acting chief of Guthi Sansthan District Chapter Kathmandu which is mandated to look after the temple protection, said tripartite talks are being held with the Department of Archaeology, Kathmandu Metropolis and Sansthan about the reconstruction.

He also shared that the building of the chapter which was damaged in the earthquake has yet to be re-built. “In lack of budget we could not make it happen”, he added.

Hiralal Tandukar, chairperson of Kathmandu-11 said discussions are being held in a way to entrust the Department with the responsibility for the reconstruction.

‘Donors had come to provide us with support for reconstruction but returned after not finding the design of the map’, he further said.

As described in the sculptor, the temple was built by the then Prime Minister Junga Bahadur Rana in 1940 BS.
