Kathmandu, July 14: The Tokha Municipality has launched the Integrated Metric Address System.
Mayor Prakash Adhikari inaugurated the Integrated Metric Address System on Monday with the aim of making it easier to identify houses and streets.
On the occasion, Mayor Adhikari stated that Tokha has started the Integrated Metric Address System to make the municipality technology-friendly. He said that the system, which has been launched in Tokha-9, will be extended to all 11 wards of the municipality.
The Mayor stated that with the installation of this system, it will be easier to locate home addresses and also to send equipment like ambulances and fire trucks during emergencies.
The municipality has stated that the system will give each house a unique identification (house number) based on its geographical location and road distance.
Basanta Pathak, head of the municipality’s information branch, said that in the metric address system, the house address is determined based on how far the house is from the starting point of the related street. This will make it easier for strangers or service providers to find any house or building easily.
According to a study conducted over three years, 28,646 buildings, 26,616 houses, and 296 kilometers of roads have been mapped within Tokha.
Even though there are more than 26,000 houses in Tokha, the mayor said that for now the system will be applied to 19,000 houses.
Once the system is installed and becomes operational, it will be easier for ambulances, fire trucks, and the police to reach the relevant houses on time.
It is said that municipal services like issuance of trace maps of land, revenue collection, and disaster management will also become more integrated and effective.
Likewise, necessary data will be available for business people, making it easier to deliver goods. #nepal
