Pokhara, July 13: A massive flood in the Kimrung River in Annapurna Rural Municipality–11, Kaski, has caused significant damage to the under-construction Upper Modi ‘A’ Hydropower Project.
The flood, which occurred on Sunday, inundated the project site, damaging several physical structures and construction equipment.
According to project technician Kumar Madhu Belbase, the flooding damaged a concrete batching plant, a crusher plant, and other project infrastructure.
The flood also washed away or damaged project materials, including drums, pipes and other construction equipment, while the access road to the project site suffered damage at several locations, disrupting transportation and construction activities.
A junior police official said preliminary estimates indicate that the flood may have caused property damage worth approximately Rs. 10 million.
The 42-megawatt Upper Modi ‘A’ Hydropower Project was launched nearly two years ago and is currently under construction.
Meanwhile, the flood also swept away a suspension bridge spanning the Kimrung River, affecting local connectivity in the area.
Authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage, while efforts are expected to begin to restore access to the project site and evaluate the impact on the project’s construction schedule. #nepal
