Vice-President should be different from President in gender or community: EC

Kathmandu, March 10: The Election Commission of Nepal (EC) has directed to register the nomination paper of the candidates of different gender or community than that of the President for the upcoming Vice-President election.

The election for Vice-President is on March 17 for which nomination paper is to be registered on March 11.

In the instruction, the EC has mentioned that Ram Chandra Paudel was elected to the post of President in the Khas Arya cluster.

The Vice-President candidate should be from different ethnic or gender community, reads the press statement issued by Commission’s Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudyal.

According to the President and Vice-President Election Act- 2074 BS, Vice-President candidate must be from different gender or community than that of the President. Now, the Vice-President should be from indigenous, Madheshi, Dalit, Tharu or Muslim.
