Bangladesh Embassy Celebrates 55th Independence Day in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu hosted a grand National Day reception on Friday evening at Radisson Hotel Kathmandu, commemorating the 55th Anniversary of the country’s Independence and National Day.

The event was graced by the Vice President of Nepal, Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, as the Chief Guest. The reception witnessed the presence of a distinguished gathering including ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, ministers, political leaders, senior government officials, business leaders, civil society members, media representatives, and members of the Bangladeshi community in Nepal.

In his address, Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal, Md Shafiqur Rahman, paid tribute to the martyrs of the historic Liberation War and expressed gratitude to the government and people of Nepal for their support during that critical period. He reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Nepal, particularly in trade, investment, connectivity, energy, education, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

Ambassador Rahman also extended congratulations to Nepal’s newly formed government under Prime Minister Balendra Shah, expressing optimism for deeper cooperation in the coming years. He further highlighted developments in Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and reaffirmed readiness for enhanced regional and international engagement.

A notable feature of the event was the display of banners supporting the candidacy of Dr. Khalilur Rahman for the President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (2027–2028). The Ambassador presented his profile and sought international backing for his bid.

The ceremony included a cake-cutting session led jointly by the Chief Guest and the Ambassador, followed by a toast symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations. A brief bilateral interaction between the Vice President and the Ambassador also took place, focusing on matters of mutual interest.

The celebration concluded with a buffet dinner featuring traditional Bangladeshi and international cuisine. Approximately 380 guests, including Nepal’s Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and over 25 ambassadors and heads of missions, attended the event, underscoring the strong diplomatic and cultural ties between Bangladesh and Nepal. #nepal
