Five people died in a truck accident in Manang

MANANG: The death toll in a truck accident at Khotro in Naso Rural Municipality-3 of Manang district has reached five.

Three persons died on the spot and two others succumbed to their injuries when a truck (Dha 1 Kha 592) heading to Manang district headquarters Chame from Lamjung’s Bensisahar met with an accident at Khotro, police said.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police at Manang Subash Khadka, Manisha Gurung, 35, her sister Jalkashi Gurung, 26, and Manisha’s son, 6-7, died on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Laxman Nepali, 21, of Ghermu Khoriakhet in Marshyangdi and Dhanman Bishwakarma, 28, of Chame. Nepali and Bishwakarma were brought to Lamjung District Hospital in Bensisahar for treatment. During the treatment, the doctor declared them both dead, police said.

According to the police, the accident took place at around 3.20 pm on Saturday. The truck carrying cement fell into the Marshyangdi river as it was going uphill. According to DSP Khadka, the truck fell into the Marshyangdi river about 40 meters below the road.

Three persons including the driver of the truck were injured in the accident. The injured have been identified as Suman Tamang of Bhanu Municipality-3 of Tanahu, Thiun Gurung, 3, of Naso Rural Municipality-4 and Nihal Gurung, 6-7 of the same ward. They were referred to the old medical college in Chitwan after initial treatment at the district hospital in Lamjung, police said.

Chief District Officer of Manang, Bishnu Lamichhane, said that the injured were rescued by Nepal Police, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and locals.
