Kathmandu, Jan 5: A total of Rs 133.5 million has been collected so far in a government fund established for the restoration of physical infrastructure damaged due to arson and vandalism during the September 8–9 Gen Z movement.
According to Tanka Prasad Pandeya, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Finance, a total of Rs 133,565,000 had been deposited in the fund as of this morning.
Under its Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR) initiative, Siddhartha Premier Insurance Limited contributed Rs 10.1 million to the fund today. Earlier, MetLife Nepal deposited Rs 2.5 million, while Oriental Insurance contributed Rs 2 million.
The fund was established in the aftermath of the Gen Z movement to mobilize support from the general public, private sector, non-resident Nepalis, development partners, and donor agencies. The government has also introduced provisions allowing contributors to deduct or claim such contributions as expenses while calculating taxable income for the current fiscal year.
