
Kathmandu, May 19: Parliamentarians have drawn government’s attention contemporary issues as well as priorities of the budget for coming fiscal year.
In today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan objected to the language used by a lawmaker indicating Jog Meher Shrestha in Sunday’s special hour of the HoR meeting.
The language used by the lawmaker had insulted the Newar community, he mentioned.
Similarly, Sher Bahadur Kunwar pointed out the need of ending the situation where people affected by disasters like earthquake have to wait for long to receive relief while Ranju Kumari Jha demanded to make arrangement of social security allowance based on contribution.
Likewise, Rekha Yadav shared that though the policies and programmes of the current fiscal year has incorporated an issue of providing identity card to all farmers, only 1.9 million farmers have received it so far, adding it was wrong to charge 24.39 per cent custom while importing organic fertilizer.
Prabhu Sah demanded the government to make public the report of a probe committee formed under coordination of Deputy-Governor soon, saying why the problems of microfinance victims have not been resolved yet.
Similarly, Prem Suwal drew government’s attention to make arrangement of employment to the people in the country as those who are in overseas employment are working in high temperature.
Amaresh Kumar Singh asked the government to investigate into the case of robbery charged against a journalist, who captured a photo of crusher industry, and demanded action against the guilty.
MP Development Fund issue raised in House
MPs have drawn the attention of the Ministry of Finance to not discredit the parliamentarians by distributing the budget under the name of the MP Development Fund.
Speaking during the special hour of the meeting of the House of Representatives today, Rajenra Kumar KC said the lawmakers should not be discredited in the name of the ‘MP Development Fund’.
Expressing dissatisfaction towards the news about the preparation to allocate Rs 34 billion in the name of the MP Development Fund, he urged to involve the MPs in identifying the plans for their respective constituencies rather than directly allocating funds to them.
“It was estimated that revenue of Rs 1.4 trillion would be generated in the current fiscal year, but only 9.5 trillion has been collected so far,” he said and suggested the government not to bring a populist budget.
Surya Prasad Dhakal demanded that the budget should bring schemes to engage Nepalese youth in production within the country instead of sending them abroad for jobs. He suggested making budget which will help the country become self-reliant in agriculture.
Ramkrishna Yadav emphasized that the government should improve its performance in accordance with the expectations of the citizens. While stating that the capacity and legitimacy of Parliament and MPs need to be enhanced, he demanded to bring a budget that would discourage middlemen in the agricultural sector. He called on the government to allocate a budget for the alternative highway without removing this heading in the budget. He also mentioned that arrangements should be made to complete infrastructure construction work quickly by working at night. RSS #Nepal
