Kathmandu, July 27: Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Arie Bass held talks with Ashish Devkota, a youth representative from Karnali Province, on Friday to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in agriculture, education and employment.
According to Devkota, the meeting focused on Ambassador Bass’s proposed visit to Karnali Province, the introduction of modern agricultural technologies, and creating greater opportunities for young people from Karnali to pursue higher education and employment in Israel.
During the meeting, Devkota emphasized the need for Israeli technical assistance to modernize agriculture in Karnali, particularly in Mugu District, and sought support to enhance agricultural productivity in the region.
He also requested expanded educational opportunities for students from Karnali through initiatives such as the “Learn and Earn” programme, as well as increased employment opportunities in Israel for qualified Nepali youth. The two sides also discussed strengthening Nepal-Israel cooperation in the fields of agriculture, education and labour, building on the existing bilateral programmes under which Nepali students and workers travel to Israel for study and employment.
Preparations for Ambassador Bass’s proposed visit to Karnali next year were also discussed. According to Devkota, Ambassador Bass noted that he has already visited six of Nepal’s seven provinces and said Karnali is now among his top priorities.
During the planned visit, the ambassador is expected to meet provincial and local government officials, observe the region’s development potential—particularly in agriculture and tourism—and experience Karnali’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and local communities firsthand. #nepal
