Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon to be held on April 9

‘Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon 2078′ has been scheduled to take place on coming April 9. The Karnali Sports Club is organising the 49-Km race which as the organiser said aims to promote a trekking route from Jumla to Rara Lake of Mugu and enhance the identity of Karnali Province through the means of sports.

Club chair Saroj Shahi shared information about this by organising press meet here today. As he said, registration for participants opens from today. This is the third season of the event.

It will start from Khalanga, the district headquarters of Jumla, locating at an altitude of 2,300 meters above the seal level and will pass through the Danfe Lek, a mountain pass (3,300 meters), Chuchchemara pass (4,100) before concluding near Rara Lake (2,890 meters).

A professional participant is expected to take five to seven hours to complete the trek which requires two days for ordinary people. Last time, the event was attended by 347 people and this time too organiser hopes to see the participation of people nearing the same number.

Last year, the winner bagged cash prize of Rs 100 thousands and this time the prize amount will be more than that, but has not been fixed yet. The event is expected to cost five million.
The participant registration fee is Rs 4,500 for foreigner and Rs 1,600 for Nepalis. The deadline for registration is till April 7.
