Three new concrete bridges completed in Kaligandaki Corridor

Mustang, Feb 9: Three motorable bridges have been constructed along the national pride project Kaligandaki Corridor (Beni–Jomsom–Korala road section) in Mustang, which connects China and India.

The Beni–Jomsom–Korala Road Project Office, Mustang completed the construction of bridges at Marphakhola in Gharpajhong Rural Municipality-2, Narsingkhola in Chhusang of Baragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality-6, and Charangkhola in Lo Ghekar Damodar Kunda Rural Municipality at a total cost of Rs. 317.8 million.

According to Project Chief Dhruba Kumar Jha, the structures and approach roads for all three bridges have been completed, and vehicles have started operating. The 120-meter-long bridge at Marphakhola and 90-meter-long bridge at Narsingkhola were built by Himdung and Thokar Immortal Construction under a contract worth Rs. 216 million, awarded six years ago.

Similarly, Kastamandap Construction Services was awarded the contract for the 80-meter-long bridge at Charangkhola on 2075 BS, for Rs. 101.8 million. The operation of these concrete bridges has eliminated the risk of crossing temporary wooden bridges or driving through riverbeds, according to Lom Sang Chomphel Bista (Raju), Chairperson of Lo Ghekar Damodar Kunda Rural Municipality.

The 202-kilometer Beni–Jomsom–Korala road connects Maldhunga of Parbat to Korala border in Mustang, near China. Out of the 24 required motorable bridges, contracts have been awarded for 19, with 12 completed, 2 under construction, 5 contracts canceled, and 5 bridges in the planning phase. The project, which began in FY 2073-2074 BS, has achieved 84% physical progress so far. #kaligandaki #nepal #korolla #mustang
