Kathmandu, July 24: The newly appointed officials of the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC), Nepal’s energy sector regulator, have taken the oath of office and secrecy.
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha administered the oath to ERC Chairperson Dr. Ram Prasad Dhital and commission members Balaram Silwal, Lok Raj Pathak, and Jay Raj Bhandari at the ministry on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Shrestha said the commission had gained experienced leadership and urged the new officials to work towards policy and institutional reforms in the energy sector.
He also pledged the ministry’s full support to the commission in carrying out its regulatory responsibilities. The newly appointed officials expressed their commitment to promoting good governance in line with the government’s priorities.
Chairperson Dr. Ram Prasad Dhital said the commission would strictly implement the government’s standards of good governance while fulfilling its regulatory mandate. He added that the commission would work under the ministry’s policy guidance, coordinate closely with the ministry, and facilitate efforts to increase domestic electricity consumption.
“The commission should receive policy guidance and institutional support from the ministry. We will work in close coordination with the ministry, and this team will deliver results,” Dr. Dhital said.
The commission members also said they each have around 20 years of experience in the energy sector and pledged to apply their knowledge and expertise to achieve result-oriented outcomes. #nepal
