Parties agree to form recommendation committee for impeachment motion against Chief Justice



KATHMANDU: Political parties in the House of Representatives have agreed to proceed with an impeachment motion registered against Chief Justice ( CJ) Cholendra Shumser JB Rana.

In a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee summoned by Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota on Sunday, political parties agreed to constitute an 11-member recommendation committee to study the proposal, according to Federal Parliament Secretariat Spokesperson Dr Rojnath Pande.

The Committee can present a report within the next three months.

With this decision, the proposal to impeach the CJ is to be incorporated in the agenda of House of Representatives (HoR).

CJ Rana faces the impeachment motion since February 13. Political parties moved the Federal Parliament Secretariat questioning his competency and conducts.

The names of the Committee member have been finalized, except main opposition CPN UML. However, UML has contacted the Federal Parliament Secretariat and proposed to give name.

Parties, including Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, Janata Samajbadi Party, have submitted their names. According to Parliamentary source, CPN (U S) has sent Kalyani Khadka, MP Rekha Sharma and another one from CPN (Maoist Center).
