Prime Minister Deuba received a vote of confidence in Parliament

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has received a vote of confidence. In the second meeting of the House of Representatives held on Sunday, Speaker Agni Sapkota declared that there was a majority in favor of Deuba’s vote of confidence.

There were 165 votes in favor of Deuba’s proposal and 83 against. One vote has been cast in favor of no-vote.

According to Speaker Sapkota, 249 people were present at the poll time. Prime Minister Deuba was voted in by Nepali Congress, UCPN (Maoist Centre), both faction of Janata Sajajbadi Party (JSP), CPN (UML) senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Janamorcha MPs. Similarly, some lawmakers from UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s party have also voted for Deuba.

In a writ petition against the dissolution, the Supreme Court had issued an order to reinstate the House of Representatives and make Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba the Prime Minister. Deuba was appointed as the prime minister on July 13.

According to the provision that a vote of confidence must be taken in the parliament within a month of his appointment, Deuba took a vote of confidence on Sunday.

22 UML MPs vote for Deuba

When Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba took a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives, 22 lawmakers of the CPN-UML voted in his favor.

While Deuba received 165 votes in the House of Representatives, 22 CPN-UML MPs voted. Not only Madhav Kumar Nepal’s faction but also Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s faction MPs also voted.

Madhav Kumar Nepal, Birodh Khatiwada, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Kalyani Khadka, Metmani Chaudhary, Bhavani Khapung, Mukunda Neupane, Parbati Bishunkhe, Hira KC and Krishna Kumar Shrestha voted for Deuba.

Similarly, Gopal Bam, Prem Bahadur Ale, Dhan Bahadur Budha, Bina Budhathoki, Sarala Yadav, Pushpa Kumari Karna, Laxmi Chaudhary, Niradevi Jairu, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Kalila Khatun, Savina Hussain and Krishnalal Maharjan have also voted for Deuba.
