KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who arrived at the residence of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday along with party leaders, has sought support for a vote of confidence. But the Congress has replied that it cannot help this time.
The meeting of Congress office bearers decided to defeat the Prime Minister when he came for a vote of confidence in the special session of the House of Representatives on May 10.
On behalf of the Congress, Deuba was accompanied by senior leaders Ram Chandra Poudel, Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi, General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala, Purna Bahadur Khadka and Joint General Secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli requested for a vote of confidence.
“He requested support from Nepali Congress. We are naturally an opposition party and we have made it clear that we are not in a position to support this time,” Dr Mahat said.
According to him, the Congress leaders have drawn the attention of Prime Minister Oli saying that the people are suffering due to lack of beds and oxygen in the coronavirus pandemic.
Prime Minister Oli stressed on the need for cooperation among the parties fighting together for the recognition of democratic values. However, NC leaders have raised question on the recently brought ordinances on the Constitutional Council and other activities in Lumbini and Gandaki. Dr Mahat said, “Prime Minister has to act according to what he is saying.”
He also made it clear that NC would not be able to support Prime Minister Oli at the special session.
