Rasuwagadhi border point to reopen for trade and transport from January 1

Kathmandu, Dec 28: Cross-border movement at the Jilong or Rasuwagadhi (Gyirong) Port, a key trade point between Nepal and China, is set to resume following disruptions caused by a flash flood disaster. The port had been closed after sudden flooding on July 8 damaged roads in the port area, bringing bilateral trade to a complete halt.

According to an official notice issued by the Chinese authorities, emergency repair works have now been completed and a temporary one-way bridge has been constructed and accepted for use. As the bridge allows only one-way passage, special traffic and customs management measures will be implemented to ensure safe and orderly trade operations, the statement said.

The notice states that from December 28, passengers involved in cross-border transport will be allowed to enter Tibet. Foreign trade enterprises have been requested to inform concerned parties in advance and ensure that Nepali drivers and crew members complete necessary preparations before entry.

Formal customs clearance for inbound and outbound vehicles will begin from January 1, 2026. During this period, a strictly enforced one-way alternating traffic system will be applied.

Due to asphalt paving works in restricted areas near the G216 border section, vehicle movement between January 1 and January 8, 2026 will be allowed from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm (Beijing Time). From January 8, 2026 onwards, vehicle entry will be permitted from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, while Chinese customs operations will remain open from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm, extending beyond normal operating hours.

With the restoration of passage at Jilong Port, bilateral trade and transportation between Nepal and China are expected to gradually return to normal. #nepal #tibet #xijang #china
