BAGLUNG: The identity card of the Tibetan refugees living in Dhorpatan camp has been renewed. A team from the District Administration Office, Baglung district, reached the camp on Wednesday and renewed the identity cards of 50 refugees.
Administrative Officer of the office Surya Lal Bishwakarma informed that the refugee identity card is renewed by mid-July every year.
The Tibetan nationals had arrived in Dhorpatan in 2016 BS, some 62 years back, as refugees.
Recently, the number of refugees living in Dhorpatan has been declining. Hundreds of refugee families lived there in the early years. The number of Tibetan refugees in Dhorpatan has decreased due to the change of camps, emigration to other countries and refugees shifting to urban areas.
The government has managed land as temporary basis for the refugees.
Refugees have built houses on their own earnings and hard work. Having mingled with the local community for decades, they have been demanding Nepali citizenship.
Due to language problems, most of the refugee children study in Pokhara. Some refugees have moved to urban areas to make a living from labor and employment. Tibetan refugees live in various parts of the country, including Dhorpatan.
