Attorney General Bhandari submits report to President Paudel



Kathmandu, Jan 5: The Annual Report of the Office of the Attorney General for the fiscal year 2081/82 BS has been submitted to President Ram Chandra Paudel.

At a program held today at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, Attorney General Sabita Bhandari Baral presented the report to President Paudel.

The annual report indicates that out of the cases, writs, and petitions filed in the relevant level of courts by the government’s legal offices, 75,165 cases were disposed of, with 66.34% of the outcomes in favor of the government.

During this fiscal year, a total of 59,355 criminal cases were registered nationwide involving the Government of Nepal as the plaintiff. The government’s legal offices represented the state in 42,109 cases, involving 66,382 individuals as defendants.

Furthermore, in 4,547 cases, it was decided that no legal proceedings would be initiated against 4,841 individuals. Additionally, out of 3,075 defendants in cases handled by the Attorney General’s Office and its subordinate offices, 2,612 cases resulted in settlements.

During the year, legal opinions were requested on 52 matters from the Attorney General’s Office and its subordinate offices, of which opinions were provided on 47 matters.

The total number of cases, writs, and petitions represented, defended, or argued in court by the Attorney General’s Office and its subordinate offices amounted to 127,409. This includes 105,036 cases where the Government of Nepal was the plaintiff, 16,514 writs filed against the government, and 5,859 other petitions. The total number of cases represents a 3.90% decrease compared to the previous fiscal year.

According to Article 159, Clause (1) of the Constitution of Nepal, the Attorney General is required to prepare an annual report of the work performed in accordance with the Constitution and federal law and submit it to the President each year. #OAG #nepal
