Chitwan administration urges public to avoid unnecessary travel

Chitwan, July 13: The District Administration Office (DAO), Chitwan, has urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel due to the increased risk of landslides and flooding caused by continuous rainfall.

In a public notice, the administration advised people to refrain from travelling along the Narayangadh–Muglin Road and the Prithvi Highway unless absolutely necessary, warning that heavy rainfall could trigger landslides and flash floods along these routes.

The notice, issued by Assistant Chief District Officer Chiranjivi Sharma, also urged travellers to remain in close contact with nearby security agencies and coordinate with local governments and the Division Road Office for the latest road conditions before setting out.

The decision was made during a meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee held on Monday, which warned that landslides could disrupt traffic at several locations along major national highways, including the Narayangadh–Muglin section.

The committee instructed security agencies, the Division Road Office, and irrigation and water resources authorities to remain on standby with the necessary machinery, equipment and personnel to respond promptly to any emergencies.

The meeting identified Tuin Khola and Seti Dobhan as areas at high risk of landslides during the ongoing monsoon season.

The committee also directed authorities to vacate, clean and prepare the old emergency shelter centres previously used by the former District Development Committee and the Nepal Red Cross Society since 2058 BS (2001/02) so they are ready for use if monsoon-related disasters occur.

In addition, the administration urged residents living along riverbanks and other flood-prone areas to remain highly vigilant and follow safety advisories throughout the monsoon season.
