POKHARA: Deepak Manange (Rajiv Gurung), who was appointed as a minister in the Gandaki state government on Thursday, has taken oath of office and secrecy. He was sworn in by state chief Amik Sherchan.
Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung has given him the responsibility of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Manange was elected from Manang district as an independent Member of State Assembly.
Manange was supporting Chief Minister Gurung. However, a large section of civil society and activists have been raising question about his appointment as Minister. In the past, he was believed to be active in criminal gang, murder, torture and kidnappings. Police have nabbed him several times with different charges.
He was also sent into jail, but freed with the political connection.
