In the 2074 BS election, Badal was elected from this constituency on behalf of the CPN (Maoist Centre). Thapa, who later joined the CPN (UML), lost his parliamentary seat and the by-election is scheduled to be held on May 20.

Candidate registration is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Opposition coalition decided to field Dr Khimlal Devkota as their candidate. Dr Devkota is believed to be Madhav Kumar Nepal-Jhalanath Khanal faction of CPN (UML).

It looks like that Thapa have to face uphill task to win the election.
