KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Joint General Secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that democracy will be strong only if the Congress is strong. He said that the establishment of the Nepali Congress was for the protection of democracy.
“There should be a review within the party as to why the party that defended the implementation of the constitution and defended democracy got less votes in the election,” he said. He said that it was important to publicize the work done by the party for the country and the people.
Dr Mahat further said that the individual were stronger than the party within the Congress. He clarified that the Congress, a party that abides by the constitution and the law, will hold its general convention on time amid the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic and floods and landslides. He said that it was necessary to bring a radical change in the style of organizing within the party.
Congress leader and Constituent Assembly member Rajiv Bikram Shahi said that the party would not be strong until the factions within the party came to an end. The program was attended by Karnali State Congress district president and state assembly members.
Coordinator of the program and Congress central member Dr Dila Sangraula said that she had launched the campaign to strengthen the party while protecting democracy. Earlier, such a campaign has been completed in Province No. 1, Province No. 2, Bagmati Province, Gandaki and Lumbini Province. She said that it will be operated in the far-western states in the coming days.
