Kathmandu Metropolitan City has brought a budget of Rs. 18.95 billion



KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has brought a budget of Rs. 18.95 billion for the fiscal year 2078/79 BS.

Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi presented the budget with the slogan ‘Cultural City, Kathmandu Metropolitan’ at the ninth session of the Kathmandu Municipal Council.

The budget has proposed Rs 3.75 billion for office operation and administration, Rs 550 million for economic development, Rs 2.70 billion for social development, Rs 10.80 billion for infrastructure development and Rs 1.15 billion for good governance and inter-related sectors.

“The proposed budget addresses the complexities posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the metropolitan residents’ passion for development, the suggestions received from metropolitan residents in last year’s Consumer Survey, and the problems seen in budget implementation in the past,” she said.

The budget prioritizes the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19, development of physical infrastructure, waste management, gender equality and social inclusion, language, culture and heritage protection and promotion.

The City has allocated budget to bear 50 percent insurance fee in the health insurance program of the government of Nepal for the people of the metropolis in the coming fiscal year.

Similarly, budget has been allocated to run a special hospital for senior citizens with specialized services.

The budget also includes the Mayor’s Enlightenment Program, prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19, at least one public toilet in each ward, one model school in each ward, at least one park in each ward, and health services for senior citizens.
