KATHMANDU: As the date of the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress draws near, the leaders have intensified their meetings and gatherings to clear their position.
A meeting of senior Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel’s group was held at a party palace in Kathmandu on Friday.
The meeting was attended by senior leader Poudel, General Secretary Shashank Koirala, leaders Shekhar Koirala, Gagan Thapa, Prakash Man Singh, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, Arjun Narasingh KC and other Central Committee members.
Leader Prakash Man Singh said that the meeting stressed on the need to investigate the active membership of the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress (NC) and resolve it as soon as possible.
Leader Arjun Narasingh KC said that the final conclusion of the discussion was that the candidates should be decided by maintaining unity and consensus should be formed in spite of such circumstances.
He said that the decision on who will be nominated for the post of President on behalf of his group will be decided through discussion.
Incumbent President Sher Bahadur Deuba was also consulting party leaders and cadres, particularly close to Deuba, across the country for the future leadership of the party. President Deuba has already announced that he will be fielding his candidacy this time as well.
Likewise, leader Bimalendra Nidhi has also announced his candidacy for the post of President.
