KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have arrested Ram Kumari Jhankri, leader of Prachanda-Nepal faction, on charges of act of treason against the state. Jhankri was arrested by the police from her house in Shankhamul, Kathmandu.
She was arrested by the police after being told that she was ready to obey the law of the land as she was a responsible citizen. Police have taken Jhankri to the crime branch.
Police have handed over an arrest warrant to Ram Kumari Jhankri, leader of the Prachanda-Nepal group, saying that she should be arrested immediately for the crime against the state under Arti6cle 58.
A large number of police had reached the residence of Jhankri to arrest her, who was in controversy over her remarks against President Bidya Devi Bhandari. A large number of cadres of the disgruntled NCP faction also gathered in front of Jhankri’s residence.
There has been a scuffle between the police and the NCP cadres who went to arrest her. Meanwhile, a policeman was injured in the attack. Jhankri argued with the police to present a proper arrest warrant.
Jhankri could face up to seven years in prison, a fine of Rs 70,000 or both if convicted, according to Article 58 (2) of the Criminal Code.
